“Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died to protect it.” ~Unknown
We are dedicating our blog this weekend to Memorial Day and those who paid the ultimate price.
980 veterans are now buried in the cemetery and they will be honored on Memorial Day.
The cemetery district is unveiling a new sculpture honoring veterans at the entrance to the cemetery. The cemetery will be hosting multiple statues in a one year program similar to the Avenues of Art program throughout town, however, this statue will be permanently set. Artist Benjamin Victor from Boise, Idaho created the statue that features a soldier standing before a wall of black granite. The statue is set on a bronze base crafted by volunteers that sports emblems representing each branch of the military.
Beginning at 7 AM on Monday the American Legion Post 42 and VFW Post 7756 will be handing out flags and crosses to be placed on the grave of each veteran.
The American Legion will host a breakfast at 8:00 at their Hall located at 200 Rockpile Boulevard.
The annual ceremony will be held at the Inspiration Garden in the cemetery beginning at 11:00. Flags will be picked up at 4:00.
From all of us at Team Properties we hope you have a safe and peaceful Memorial Day weekend. God Bless!
